Hi ,
You no doubt have seen a lot of email newsletters recently reminding you of updated privacy policies, and their goal of adhering to the
European General Data Protection Regulation, which goes into effect on May 25, 2018.
Many, but not all, of the newsletters I subscribe to are asking me to basically resubscribe to confirm that I want to continue to receive the newsletter.
And before we get much further into this, here's a reminder of the information we may have about you (if it's blank, we don't have it):
Your
name:
Your Country (if we have it):
Your email address:
Where you subscribed:
When you subscribed:
Your IP address:
Daytime Phone (although it's very rare that you would encounter a form asking for this):
And finally, there is a link at the end of each newsletter that gives
you the option to discontinue your subscription. Here it is if you can't find it easily:
So - what does this mean for you as a subscriber of the TradeshowGuy Newsletter?
Well, first, since the newsletter is sent out using the AWeber service, I can tell you that AWeber is completely compliant with the GDPR that affects any subscribers in Europe. Here's a
link to their blog post regarding the compliance with links to how their privacy policy works and so on.
From what I've been able to gather regarding GDPR, many of the businesses that are hustling to be compliant do a lot of online transactions, where you would expect them to have access to financial information such as credit card numbers. Since we don't sell anything online at TradeshowGuy Exhibits, that is not an issue for us. Our
business is all done either face to face or over the phone. Yes, we have private email communication, but nothing is really sold through our websites. You can browse thousands of exhibits through our
Exhibit Design Search site, but you have to talk to a human being to actually make a purchase of an exhibit you find there.
