Hello ...!
Let's get this out of the way right up front. This newsletter is normally published on Monday night. But... Yesterday my wife and I took her 14-year old son to the airport in Portland to see him off on hie first-ever solo unaccompanied flight to see a relative. Fun! But that meant battling traffic both ways, which meant meandering through
construction and accident zones, which meant that the whole "I gotta publish the newsletter tonight" got pushed aside. As in: today it's here!
This week, new tradeshow infographics from Pinterest, some internal planning notes and thoughts on TradeshowGuy Exhibits' upcoming appearance at the Cannabis Collaborative Conference in January, and a solo podcast where I discuss bad and good (and amazing) bosses. What does it take to be a great
boss?
Soundtrack for this week's newsletter is Elton John's debut album in the US, titled simply
"Elton John." It was released April
1970. The producer, Gus Dudgeon, says the album wasn't intended launch Elton as a solo artist, but rather, to create a demo of his songwriting talents so that other artists would record his material! His earlier album, Empty Sky, was released in his native England the previous year but didn't see the light of day in the US until 1975. You know, once he had become famous and all. And boy, by then he was really famous. I did see an
Elton John concert one - the
"Goodbye Yellow
Brick Road" tour. I remember hearing a girl next to me in the audience exclaim, as Elton took the stage, "Oh wow, he's so
short!" Which I thought was weird because he was wearing some extraordinarily high-heeled platform shoes.
