Hi ,
I read a lot of fiction. Somehow the assembling of a good novel seems to me to be something that is one of the most challenging creative adventures a writer could ever embark on. Maybe someday I'll finish mine, right? Lately I've spent a lot of time in the worlds of
Jack Reacher and
Harry Bosch. I've also dipped into the worlds of
Philip Roth and
Haruki Murakami, both of whom are considered among the best writers of their times. All
of their work comes highly recommended!
New items this week: how not thinking outside the box for tradeshow marketing execution might be the best approach; 6 ways to make a great first impression at your tradeshow booth, and an interview with
Social Point's Sam Smith on digital engagement with
tradeshow attendees on this week's TradeshowGuy Monday Morning Coffee. Good stuff, I hope you take a look or listen.
Soundtrack for this week's issue is
John Lennon and Yoko Ono's "Double Fantasy." Released November 17, 1980, it became a worldwide hit after a slow initial response. Lennon's murder three weeks after the album was released no doubt
had a lot to do with the attention the album got. I'm listening to a 180 gram vinyl half-speed mastered Nautilus Super Disc on 43-year-old Bolivar speakers that I rebuilt this week. Longer story, but I've had these speakers since I was in my mid-20s and they served me well for a couple of decades until the felt surround on the woofers disintegrated. Finally figured out how to replace them, so I brought them out of storage, dusted them off, repaired them and plugged them in. John and Yoko sound
pretty good this morning on them. This album has always meant a lot to me: I was a music director at a small radio station and when an advance copy came in I invited several Beatle-fan friends over to listen. Good memories. And yes, I actually admit that I've always been a big fan of Yoko's!
