Hi ,
it's a holiday here in the US as we honor and remember civil rights fighter and icon Martin Luther King, Jr. Banks are closed, the post office is closed. But it seems that most of the people I've been in contact with in business are definitely working today. As am I.
And since it's a holiday, I suppose it's good timing that today's vlog/podcast is all about 'downtime.' Vacation. Time off. Re-charging and refreshing. I muse for a few moments on the concept of downtime, and wonder out loud why hundreds of millions of days of vacation time is left unused in the US every year.
Also this week: a guest post on the value of investing in tradeshow marketing, and a post on the perspective of tradeshows and how they're a mix of precision and experimentation.
Soundtrack for this week's episode - the music I'm listening to while assembling this edition:
Rush's "Feedback" from 2004. With the passing last week of drummer
Neal Peart, I have dug into my Rush collection for a few goodies. While I like so much of their material, the collection of cover tunes they released 16 years ago is a helluva lot of fun. It's a set of music that influenced them heavily in the Sixties, with covers of songs by Eddie Cochran, the Yardbirds, Love, Buffalo
Springfield, The Who and others. First time I heard this I loved it. Just a great collection of music that has that distinctive Rush imprimatur.
