Hi ...
Let's get together this Friday for lunch!
Let's talk about what's going on. Or don't talk at all. Just join me. I'll be working, or eating lunch. I'll definitely have a cup of coffee nearby.
I'm curious to know how you're doing with all of what's going on in the world and how it's affecting you.
Are you working from home? Are you going to the office? Are you even working? With the economic downturn – a mild phrase, I realize – our jobs have been upended and affected in ways we could not have anticipated when 2020 rolled into view.
Here at TradeshowGuy Exhibits, while things have not precisely ground to a halt, business is slow. Many people I have been in contact are seeing the same. Most are working from home as we move into the Great Telecommuting of 2020.
What changes will we see as a result of this unprecedented shift? And what will come back once we return to normal? Or will there be a new normal that is different than the old normal?
I’ve read a lot online, seen Zoom gatherings and webinars with experts and everyday people just sharing what they’re going through.
I've collected a few notes from these gatherings and readings, and here are a few things that people are talking about:
FIRST: Help other people!
Reach out to clients, talk with them about how they’re doing. What challenges are they and their company having? You don’t need to sell anything to them. They know what you do, and if they need something from you, they’ll tell you. Just check in.
Do something every day: a live stream to offer help, make five phone calls to friends or family or clients. Write a blog. Upload a podcast episode.
Look to the short term: what can you do for people this week, next week, the week after? Looking much beyond that will be difficult with the drastic changes we see daily in the situations we’re in.
Have a routine, keep it as normal as you can. What's your daily routine? I get up early and work on my novel, then do a short bit of yoga, then walk the dog with my wife, then get to work in my home office. What do you do?
Give yourself permission to do things differently if you can’t maintain the same routine.
Take care of yourself. You can’t be there for other people if you aren’t in tiptop condition.
Live in the present. You can’t change the past; you can’t predict the future. Focus on what’s right in front of you. You can’t worry about things that are out of your control.
People come together in times of crises. Yes, when we’re prevented from gathering in groups so that we can remain healthy, we can only connect digitally, but we can still come together and help.
Take it One Day at a time. Work to stand out.
- How can you make whatever you do be even more convenient for your customers and clients?
- How can you differentiate yourself from your competition?
- How can you make yourself memorable?
- What story can you tell about you or your business that will get attention?
- It’s okay to sell, as long as you’re doing it from the perspective of helping others.
- Your goal is to delight and comfort clients. Act as if they’re your friends and they’ll become your friends. Build relationships.
- Listen to smart people!
- Be as resilient as you can.
- Be as innovative as you can. Take the skills you already have and think of new ways to use and apply them.
And plan on joining me for lunch this Friday the 27th: if you're able, even for just a few moments to say hello, at 11:30 am Pacific / 12:30 PM Mountain / 1:30 PM Central / 2:30 PM Eastern this Friday, March 27!
Here's the link to my
ZOOM ROOM - see you there!
Looking forward to seeing you there. Let's see how we can help each other!
