Hotter than July. Time for iced coffee and gazpacho. Early morning walks. Cool evenings. And the comet! Have you seen the
NEOWISE comet? I saw it last night from my backyard at
about 10:30 and plan a trip to the outskirts of town tonight with binoculars to get a closer look.
This week on the blog: playing a game of what if; a short video on tradeshow flooring, and a podcast interview with Kevin Carty of Classic Exhibits of Portland on how they're making their way through the pandemic disruption.
Soundtrack for this week's newsletter:
Stevie Wonder's "
Hotter Than July" (Spotify link), released in 1980, was a pretty big comeback for Wonder after the disappointment of
"
Journey Through the Secret Life of Plants," released the year before. "July" has a bunch of hits, including "
Master Blaster," an ode to
Bob Marley, who had toured with Stevie in 1979 and
inspired Wonder's love of reggae. It may not be quite as good as the trio of Stevie Wonder albums from the early and mid-70s (
Music of My Mind, Talking Book and
Innervisions), which solidified his standing and showed off his incredible talent, but "
Hotter Than July" was, well, hot. And it is July. So crank it up!
