Hi ,
Sliding into a new season tomorrow morning, just in time. Here in the northern hemisphere, the equinox brings autumn. In the southern half of the world, spring is afoot. For those of us who are detail-oriented, the exact moment is September 22 at 9:31 AM EDT. And if you're interested the Farmer's Almanac is forecasting cooler weather in the eastern US and warmer weather out west for fall.
The big story here in Oregon and on the west coast remains the batch of forest fires that have burned hundreds of square miles of forest over the past few weeks. My mom's place in the small town of Gates, Oregon, was spared, although three neighbor's homes were all black rubble when we finally made it to her place yesterday afternoon. She maintains that the metal roof kept her home from catching on fire. Whatever it was, she knows she's lucky and dodged a bullet. When we arrived, we
found water and electricity both turned on. Lots of debris to clean up, which we'll do soon.
On the blog this week, a new short video on awareness, and how being aware of certain things, especially on the tradeshow floor, can help you to a greater success; a hopefully diverting post on the books I've read since the beginning of the year. Also an informative and upbeat podcast/vlog featuring Kevin Carty of Classic Exhibits as we discuss virtual exhibits. Good stuff.
Soundtrack for this week's issue:
Uriah Heep's "The Magician's Birthday," (
Spotify) the band's fifth album, released in fall of 1972. I was a junior in HS at the time, and my older brother
was a big Uriah Heep fan, so I was well-steeped in their interesting progressive metal approach to rock and roll.
The Magician's Birthday (
Wikipedia) was not well-received by critics at the time, but as the
decades have passed it's become more respected. I don't listen to the band much, but when I do their music always brings me a smile because it takes me back :-).
