Hey ,
Tradeshows are coming back. Clients are reaching out. Exhibitors are preparing or upcoming shows. I sense a little hesitancy about the whole 'return-to-shows' thing, but I also sense a pent-up demand to get back in front of audiences.
This week, a recap of a bunch of books I've consumed so far this year; the increasing cost and expanding timeline of acquiring promotional products; a cool video on Eco-Systems Sustainable Exhibits, and a timely interview with Andy Saks of Spark Presentations, who walked the floor of the World of Concrete last month in Las Vegas.
Soundtrack for this week's issue: Best of Buckethead. Have you ever heard of Buckethead? I hadn't until a friend of mine mentioned him several years ago. Frankly, when I looked him up on Wikipedia, I was a little shocked. He's an extremely prolific (over 300 albums!!) and talented guitarist who shreds with the best of them. GuitarOne Magazine called him one of the "Top Ten Fastest Guitar Shredders of All Time." Born Brian Patrick Carroll in 1969, the
Buckethead persona came to him from a horror movie, Halloween, when he was 19. He simply put a KFC bucket on his head and said that's what he was going to be. Buckethead. Guy can play and as far as styles and types of music, he's all over the board, but his talent shows through. Check him out here on Spotify.
Ever find yourself in a decision fatigue spiral?
What should I have for dinner? What show should I binge next? Which oat milk is best? What color should I paint this room? Zoom, text, or phone (wait, people still talk on phones)? What about my job? Should I stay or find something new? Should I ask for a raise? Shoes and socks or flip-flops? Run, walk, cycle, or nap? Does it make the playlist, or not? What about tomorrow's dinner?!?! #GAAAHHHHHH!!!
Between the firehose of digital distraction that is social media, generations of helicopter safety-over-competence parenting, and decision-making by proxy, groupthink, or, hey, social poll, we've lost the art of quick and decisive decision-making. And, along with it, the joy of having made the call AND the gobsmackingly large amount of time handed over to needless pondering and the endless decision-field death spiral.

Rama Beerfas of Lev Promotions keeps her ear to the ground when it comes to promotional products. She's saying to expect higher costs and longer turnaround times.
