241 years and counting....Happy 4th of July to the good folks here in the USA! Ben Franklin wrote that we should celebrate with lots of fireworks. So he's the guy to blame for the neighborhood fireworks enthusiasts, eh?

When I was a kid I was fascinated by the 4th of July. Not the fireworks - I grew up in a national forest where fireworks were (and still are) banned. But the age of the country: each year I'd note the age. As I grew, I'd count: 187, 188, 189, 190...waiting for the big one: 200. Well, that one was a real blowout (I had just turned 21 less than a month before, so, yeah).
